Scallywags Nursery is committed to promoting healthy eating practices in collaboration with Zebedees.co.uk, ensuring that every child’s dietary needs are met with care and attention to detail.
We prioritise correct portion control to ensure meals are balanced and appropriate for young children, supporting their nutritional needs without overeating. Each meal includes ‘5 a day’, incorporating a variety of fruits and vegetables to promote a diverse and nutrient-rich diet. Portion sizes are carefully managed, tailored to children’s age and activity levels, fostering mindful eating habits from an early age.
We strive to instill lifelong habits of nutritious eating, ensuring the well-being and development of all children in our care, from infancy through early childhood.
Children at Scallywags Nursery have the opportunity to experience the joy of growing their own fruits and vegetables in our garden. This hands-on experience not only enhances their understanding of where food comes from but also encourages them to make healthy food choices.
As part of our commitment to promoting healthy eating, Scallywags Nursery has achieved the Healthy Eating London Gold Award. This initiative reflects our dedication to maintaining high standards in food safety, quality, and nutritional integrity.
Scallywags Nursery is committed to promoting oral health through a comprehensive approach that includes training and supporting parents, engaging children in discussions about oral care, and fostering healthy eating habits.

By empowering parents with knowledge and practical advice, the nursery ensures that oral health routines extend beyond the nursery environment into children’s daily lives.
We also engage children in age-appropriate discussions about oral hygiene. Educators use storytelling, demonstrations, and interactive activities to teach children about the importance of brushing teeth, using fluoride toothpaste, and making healthy food choices that promote dental health. These discussions are designed to instill positive attitudes towards oral care from a young age, setting the foundation for lifelong habits.
Additionally, Scallywags Nursery integrates healthy eating practices that support oral health. we prioritise nutritious meals and snacks that are low in sugars and acids, which can contribute to tooth decay. By offering ‘5 a day’ and ensuring correct portion sizes, the nursery promotes a balanced diet that supports overall health, including dental health.
