At Scallywags, our core values centre on curiosity, respect, and natural growth. Our guiding ethos is rooted in the principles of In the Moment Planning and Forest School, therefore much of the children’s play and learning happens in an outdoor environment.
This translates to a learning environment that values spontaneity, direct experiences, and the natural world. We aim to foster children’s innate curiosity and encourage them to guide their learning journeys through spontaneous exploration and discovery. We hold great respect for the individual learning pace and style of each child and provide an environment where they are given autonomy to learn through play, take managed risks, and build resilience. We believe that the natural world provides an unparalleled classroom, nurturing creativity, problem-solving, physical development, and well-being.
Our nursery curriculum is shaped around the pivotal triad of INTENT, IMPLEMENTATION AND IMPACT.
Our INTENT is to foster a rich, engaging environment that stimulates each child’s natural curiosity and supports their overall development, encompassing cognitive, physical, emotional, and social growth.
To IMPLEMENT our curriculum, we employ principles of In the Moment Planning and Forest School ethos, promoting child-led activities and experiential learning within nature’s classroom. Our team serves as facilitators, creating a supportive environment that inspires children to explore, experiment, and express themselves freely.
The IMPACT of our curriculum is documented through a comprehensive process of observation and assessment. We continually monitor the children’s development and learning progression, recording significant milestones, and capturing moments of discovery. We use Development Matters, EYFS, CoEL, and the Leuven Scale to track children’s development through observations.
We work closely with parents and carers as we believe that the child’s learning and achievement is something we should all be a part of.
